Autumn 2019

We are starting the year off with our topic of Disaster Zone - a topic in which we will be exploring and investigating natural disasters around the world and across the years.  We will be writing non-chronological reports, explanations, stories, persuasive texts, diary entries and discussion texts based around natural disasters, as well as our class book, Running Wild by Michael Morpurgo.  This story is based around the Indonesian Boxing day tsunami.  It tells the story of a boy who escapes the disaster on the back of an elephant and how he survives jungle life.  It also tackles topics such as poaching which provide excellent writing opportunities.  Our Science this term is based around the properties of solids, liquids and gases, moving on to insulating materials following half term.  In Art we are going to be exploring different media through our sketching of elephants and in RE the children will be studying creation stories from different religions.
