Croeso i Flwyddyn 6
A big welcome to our Year 6 page.
It's so great to be back at school. The children have settled well and are working hard!
So far we have started our Autumn Term topic based on the 7 Natural Wonders of the World and the children are involved with researching their chosen wonder and writing a report about it.
We are also enjoying exploring and experimenting with the pointillist method of painting in which dots are used to create images.
In Maths, Year 6 have undertaken lots of work on place value and we are now involved in understanding the method involved in long multiplication and division. Some of us are finding it more straight-forward than others!
Our Science topic this term is Dissolving and we will soon be mixing different materials with water in order to make careful observations of what happens.
Here's is an overview of how our week typically runs:-

Please make sure that reading books and Spelling folders are in school everyday.

In Year 6, we have a 'cold' spelling test on a Monday, in which the children are tested on words they have not learnt and then their 'hot' test is carried out on a Friday, when they have had a chance to learn their words at home throughout the week, using the tasks / activities in their Spelling folders.
Each week, we carry out a times tables test in which the children are tested on the times table they are on as well as the related division facts. For example, if 4 x 2 = 8, then 8 divided by 2 = 4 and 8 divided by 4 = 2. All the children started on their 2 x table and are working hard to improve their times!
Year 6 homework is issued on a Friday and due in the following Wednesday. We are trialing giving the children homework through their Hwb accounts at the moment and all of the children have been given their Hwb login details on a laminated card to bring home.
