Each week, Miss Tanner will upload our blended learning activities on a Thursday afternoon or Friday morning. This is so that children attending school on Wednesday and Thursday cannot complete the activities beforehand and so that children still learning at home have access to the activities around the same time as their peers in school.
If you need additional activities, please email Miss Tanner. There is also a 'transition booklet' (please see below) which you can complete over the next three weeks ready for your new teacher in September.
There will be a weekly plan shared with you which includes literacy, numeracy, personal and social (PSE), and topic based tasks. There will also include examples of support that you can provide your child with if they find the task challenging and examples of extensions if your child found the activity comfortable.
Again, please contact Miss Tanner if you have any questions or concerns and we can arrange a phone call or meeting after school.
I really look forward to seeing everyone again and I hope that everyone is still safe and well!
HOME LEARNING
MARCH 2020-JULY 2020
Shw mae, Derbyn a Blwyddyn Un! Hello, Reception and Year One!
I hope that you are all safe, well and happy – and enjoying this time at home with your loved ones!
During your time at home, it would be wonderful if you could try to complete some activities with some help from your parents, guardians or siblings. Therefore, I have assigned some reading books and maths activities for each child on this website:
Pupils will need to use their username, password and school code to log in to this website and can obtain them by emailing Miss Tanner at the following address:
Please feel free to email me if you have any other questions or concerns. I sincerely apologise for any delay in responding to emails since we have finished school – Hwb has been experiencing technical difficulties!
There are two information sheets attached below which you can download to explain how to use the Bug Club section (reading books) and Abacus section (maths activities and games). I have also listed some more useful websites below the information sheets. I will try to update this page as regularly as I can with different suggestions for activities to try at home.
Please also feel free to utilise the pack that was recently sent home with the pupils in Reception/Year 1 - this pack included a list of the rhymes used to teach children the formation of the letters and phonics, the 100 high frequency words to practise reading and writing, and a clock face hand-made by the pupils to practise reading o'clock and half past on an analogue clock.
I look forward to seeing you all when we return to school!

Circus Visit - September 2019
To begin our 'Happiness' topic, we discussed what makes us happy and different activities we enjoy. Then, we were visited by the circus! They showed us different skills to teach and share with others and we thoroughly enjoyed!
Harvest 2019
The children have learned about the purpose of farms and what foods they can supply. We then discussed the importance of healthy eating and tried a variety of fruit and vegetables before sorting and describing them.
We also compared farming in South America to farming in Britain, and learned about how cocoa is harvested. For the Harvest Supper, we decided to combine fruit farmed in Britain and chocolate farmed in South America.... to make chocolate fruit skewers! We learned that you must use heat (from a microwave) to melt chocolate into a liquid, and how you must use a cold temperate (from a fridge) to turn the chocolate into a solid again.
Christmas 2019
For the Christmas fair, we consolidated our understanding of materials can change states by melting and cooling chocolate again. We learned about traditional Christmas puddings, before creating our own recipe using rice krispies, maple syrup, chocolate and icing. We designed advertising posters and wrote down the recipe.
Baa Baa Bethlehem - Foundation Phase Concert 2019
The Foundation Phase all worked extremely hard together to rehearse their lines, create dances and learn songs in able to perform their Christmas concert in front of their teachers, peers and families. Their efforts were evident - it was a fantastic show and a lovely ending to our first term!
